The open-source, decentralised, and distributed cryptocurrency known as Ethereum Classic coin is an extension of the Ethereum platform. It was co-developed by the Ethereum Foundation and Vitalik Buterin, and it was initially referred to as Ethereum. It was created in 2015 following the DAO hack. Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum allows people to perform smart contracts without requiring a central authority. Ethereum Classic price fluctuations affect the cost of execution of smart contracts.
